Ruin Pubs can be located in ruined or abandoned buildings across town; Some Pubs are so big they have the whole building for themselves. Some might ask which ruin pub to visit and there are a lot of options such as Szimpla Kert and Instant which are the two most known pubs in Budapest however there are other places to visit.

Ankert is one of the newer Ruin Pubs in town and has been open since mid 2012, it might not be known internationally as much as Szimpla however as of lately it has been getting livelier by the night. Ankert is located on Paulay ede street just across the Opera House in Budapest, it is located in the heart of the city.

At the entrance, a huge door can be found with the letter “A” symbolizing the bars name, welcoming visitors inside. Right after the entrance is the main section of the bar which is happens to be an abandoned courtyard of a building. A huge spacious area with a huge number of tables, not finding a place to sit will not be a problem. The top of the courtyard is open which helps cool down air at the bar making it an ideal place to be in warm summer night. The courtyard includes a simple design layout with only the old walls and some LED lamps and basic lamps to light up the mood with very little accessories. The first bar is set right in the courtyard which stretches from the entrance towards the room in the inside part of the building AnKert is set in.

The room inside hosts both a bar and its own kitchen. Inside part is more relaxed then its counterpart, allowing visitors to enjoy more a quite atmosphere with comfortable couches and delicious hamburgers however some might feel like it is a little too dark inside with little light. Ankert also hosts its own events with different DJs performing live at their dance floor. The dance floor is not that big however it is spacious enough to host parties. It is a common sight to see a different DJ play almost every day throughout the summer and show the World Cup games live this summer.

Ankert is one of the newer Ruin Pubs slowly building up and earning its reputation, a simple design yet smart in a abandoned building packed with lively people is a must to visit in lovely summer nights.
